Mash 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2008 Hey, Went for my WOF today at the AA, and all went fine besides to things. Right hand Hi Beam ( Is this just a lightbulb or more) and then my rear tyres are mismatched. So looking for super cheap 225/55/16 non directional, or directional. Cheers
greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted November 23, 2008 Right hand high beam? They didn't explain what was needed? Obviously if the bulbs blown it need replacing, and that would be why it failed. Didn't think mismatched tyres were a wofable check.
JiB 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2008 Didn't think mismatched tyres were a wofable check. It is dangerous to mix directional/asymmetric/non-directional. IIRC mixing will make the car unpredictable under load. Why not see zenneti? He had some good prices up on the forum a while ago.

Yeah he didn't say much (busy part of the day) But was just checking it wouldn't be something bigger, then just a bulb

Creaver 55 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 I believe tyre brands need to be the same on the same axle. That's what I was told by a tyre place out my ways.
bravo 35 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 They're wron about being the same brand. Tyres on the same axle must be the same size, the same type of construction (eg steel-belted radial), and same tread type (eg directional, assymetric, etc). Ply ratings must also be the same, and load indices not vary by more than 2. Above is paraphrased from the WOF manual which is available online and I have a opy in front of me. However, fulfilling all those criteria may mean its easier just to fit the same brand, and may mean tyre shops find it easier to explain to customers that way.
