Bah, my bad.

Timing chain tensioner! That was a typo in the title.

We inspected the chain and it seems in good nick so we are assuming the tensioner needs replacement. According to some articles BMW has released an upgraded part so thats the one I am after.

Sorry for confusion.

The upgrade kit is expensive & unecessary. ring Nick. We do this all the time. Its not an engineering upgrade..just costs you more $$$

OOOps are you talking chain tensioner upgrade or belt tensioner upgrade ???

Yeh, after a new timing chain tensioner (which has since been upgraded by BMW).

I called Nick just before and he thinks only way is through BMW :(

Last ditch effort to contact a friend in Singapore, but it's not looking good.

Seems like I may have to bite the bullet and get one from Germany.

Are thet quite expensive? I would assume around $200 at the very most for just the tensioner?

Seems like they not too bad, website in the states selling them for $95USD.

I would say realistically probably going to cost me around $150-200 mark as you said.

Well that's not too much money. The thing is with this sort of issue without having the correct gear to diagnos you're just going through a process of elimination, if the tensioner doesn't sort the proplem (lets hope it does) then you go to the next thing knowing that you now have a good tensioner in place.

Best to get a stethiscope to try identify the noise.

Well no doubt, and we have looked at it extensively.

And all the current signs point in that direction, especially the fact that is a common fault not to mention upgraded by BMW.

So we are pretty damn sure it's it but obviously it could potentially be something else... we will tackle that if it comes.

But yeh, we have looked into it as much as we can I think.
