I'm thinking this might be an indication to replace the car battery? I know that the factory indicator on the batt shows as 'black spot'. Anyone got any clues? allan 295 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 Black E39 hi! They are expensive if you go genuine but not to bad for a good quality after market one. Match the capacity of the battery with what you have now I was told to do.As the E39 has a lot of behind the scene things going on that one is not aware of. Indeed, never fit an under-rated battery to a car. It will cost you more as the smaller battery will fail sooner and leave you stranded somewhere. Always fit the a battery meeting or exceeding the original battery's capacity And with a high-quality car like a BMW, make sure you fit a high quality battery. Out of interest I checked out the dealer - double the price.Is it worth scanning the computer for a fault? Is this a dealer thing or can most Euro specialists do this? If your battery is showing black & not green, the charge rate is OK and there is no current draw when the vehicle is shut down... replace the battery. Best get a specialist to do these checks though.
