ispansbab 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2009 Hi All, I'm looking at a 1987 NZ new 318i, 2-door coupe, 4-cyl 1800cc. Is this car supposed to have a cambelt or camchain? The current owner believes it is a chain, but i think it's got a belt. What other issues should I look out for on this car? It's nice and straight, but feels a tad bit sluggish on take off. ispansbab 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2009 Thanks for the input guys. Yes it's an auto. This is the first time i've driven an E30, does the gas pedal really feel heavy on these cars or is the spring just too hard? I found myself applying a lot more oomph than i normally would to get the car to accelerate. Where do i check the engine code, would it be on the VIN plate in the engine compartment? Not directly, but if you enter the last 7 digits into BMW parts program like: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do it will tell you which engine was fitted. bravo 34 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 I am not a fan of the stiff bmw throttles - I always take half a turn to a full turn off the spring on the throttle body to make it less stiff - still returns/snaps closed fine.
