isis 16 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 Hi all, i won an auction on TM for BMW. Got in touch with the seller & asked for VIN details & they've asked me for my details to do a registration transfer. I said i'll come and pick the car up on the weekend & pay cash for it. I've rung today for an address & they've said the car has been already taken on thursday night! I said i was the one that won the auction. Someone has obviously pretended to be me & taken it away. They obviously haven't asked for an ID! Now the owner has already lodged ownership transfer papers in my name & address. I've rung the police to make a report just incase if these moron's decide to do something untoward & i could be liable. They said i'm not the registered owner & can't do anything. What are my options here? Attached is the pic of the car....
isis 16 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 quick update - the owner has lodged a police report as this is classified as fraud. So if you're reading this or know someone with this car - please get in touch with the ppl you've bought the car! A case file is open.
steve R 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 go down to the post shop with the number plate number and find out who the new owner is?
QuickSilver 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 How exactly did they get all your details like full name, postal address and all the info that is required to change ownership of a vehicle? Sounds dodgy to me! I'd ring Carfax or the post office and ask them to check who has made any recent checks on your number plate or ownership details, seeing as this would give them all the info they needed, they are able to do this for reasons such as this. Then forward the info to the police? Or to the seller, or have a look for yourself and THEN forward it to the police.

my_e36 43 Report post Posted February 21, 2009 I thought ownership paper needs to be filed with match details by both parties (seller and buyer) to make it complete. Why not have the seller check with LTSA (or LTNZ?) to confirm the details?
