Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Well, spent Saturday stripping the shell for the next Race project. This one's for Stevo, and, yes it will fit. Will try to document as much as possible as we go, and inform prices as well. This will not be a road car, pure track. Total budget under $8k we hope. KBM 5 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Hi Guy's (my first post so hope it works ) Dave these engines are a personal favourite, no dramas and heaps of grunt! Could you be tempted to move the motor back? I know moving the firewall would be a hassle but the balance difference would be huge, great project, KB. Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 (edited) Sure is heavy, but, Battery to boot, remove aircon, fibreglass bonnet, and a few other things and it'll be lighter than the 320's in the front. Edited March 3, 2009 by Silver Fox
Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 How are you going about the engine mounts? Custom steel fab, will fabricate new mounting points rather than change the mounts I think.

Welcome, I feel privileged to be the recipient of your maiden post. We can't cut the firewall for the Race series, so just have to push it back as far as we can. We did contemplate mid mounting it, that way we wouldn't be cutting the firewall, but decided that was against the spirit of things.

Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 ah but you didn't tell him the cost of the manual gearbox kit thats the hard and expensive bit Box I'm using in this car cost $600, new clutch was $380, custom front shaft around $600, so, yes it is the expensive bit, but it's the bit that makes it so much fun as well. Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 I'm doing a rebuild on the E28 motor at the moment for next season, so will see how that goes and take it from there. Stock at the moment is what I'm saying.
Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Doesnt the drive shaft out of an E36 328 fit straight in? I've heard something like that as well, guess I've got a bit of homework to do on that bit.
Guest Spottswoode Report post Posted March 3, 2009 Sure is heavy, but, Battery to boot Be careful there, I know (especially in the M30's case!) it's all about weight distribution, but that massive cable going through the car all the way to the boot isn't exactly light
