Carl 3 Report post Posted October 31, 2004 I should point out that for those that have never driven on the Makara/Ohariu valley road that this stage was the hardest stage of the entire tour. It was numerous one lane bridges and the road is narrow for 5ks of it through a gorge with 90 degree turns and the likes....that pug found out hard what the cliff faces feel like! For those entering in the scavenger hunt in a few weeks time you should travel through this section at some point

StylesM5 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) Crashed Pug The drive was bashing his helmut on the armco Guys, FYI the pug broke a suspension component to cause the crash. Note the odd tyre marks just prior to impact. PJ, the driver, is very competitive and not one to bottle up his emotions!! The $1k cost to replace his helmet pales in comparison to the cost to fix the car, which he has since sold (early 2005) and replaced with an RS200 Escort. His monkey mechanics stuffed his chances in competing in 2005 Targa, and to date (July 2006) it's still not running right!!The only way to make a small fortune from Motorsport is to start with a large one, unless your name in Bernie or Ron (Dennis)! Cheers, Jock E: Nice way to drag up an old thread Edited July 23, 2006 by Carl

StylesM5 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2006 (edited) And a damn nice 200 it is..... Was at the street show at the start of last years targa. Aparently was missing some gear box parts. Hes a very good driver. I cant wait to seethe RS200 in action! GuysThe T16 was genuine and was sold to a guy in the UK. PJ bought the RS about a year ago and spent heaps to get it looking as good as it is. The story of why he didn't make the start is his mechanics (I'm not saying who) gave the engine a freshen up. When they went to put the spark plug leads on they noticed the small screw fitting from on top of one of the plugs was missing. They didn't think much of it and found another one and reconnected everything. They turned the motor over a few times with no ignition to get oil through all the galleries and noticed a small "clicking" sound. Fearing the worst, they pulled the plugs and found the offending fitting in the bore. This was all a day before the prologue. PJ thought about risking it, but decided not to and pulled the motor apart. I don't know what they found in the way of damage, but PJ says the donkey is worth about $60k to replace!!. Should be going for this year though. Cheers, Jock Edited July 25, 2006 by StylesM5
