E30 leaks!

Recommended Posts

To all E30 owners!!

Once upon a time I had an e30 318i which for some odd reason got damp seat belts after a good wash or a heavy rain storm. I got into my newer E30 this morning and the passenger seat belt was a bit damp! Hmmm... annoying.

Has anyone else suffered this misfortune and addressed it? Where is the leak coming from?

Cheers!

I do have a sunroof but the drainage tunnels are clear. How does it get to the seat belts?

Mine was rusted out, so despite having clear drainage channels it dripped out throught the headlining onto the rear seat and floor etc, ended up with water all through the entire carpet and right across the backseat.

There are several other places it could be coming from though, I havent actually heard of water on seatbelts before...

At the back of the sunroof is a piece of "spouting" or a drip tray in BMW speak - it runs across the ca and attaches to the sunroof lining, so that is slides back and forth with the roof. If this has become detached, the water will run down into the car, via the hoodling, onto seatbelts, rear seats, etc. If you tilt the sunroof, you should be able to shine a torch in to the opening and see if the channel is attached or not.
