the stig 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 A mate has recently had a manual conversion done on his e36 325i and is now having a few problems. When changing into 2nd it clunks and it is whining through all the gears. Anyone know what could be causing this? Cheers Nick

greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Sounds like a problem with the gearbox not the conversion.
Jamez 2147483647 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Sounds like a problem with the gearbox not the conversion. +1, usually when noise come from somewhere that's where the problem is at. one thing that fix's a gearbox is to take the oil out, fill it with kerosene, go through all the gears, then drain and put oil back in and do the same then for piece of mind drain and put more oil in, so that you know there is no kerosene left in there worked with making my shifts way less clunky and cut back on the noise
Guest FrantiC Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Bad shifter linkage can cause the clunking and grinding, as it either doesn't put it firmly into gear properly. I have seen it alot, where the linkage is the cause of grinding gears and stuff. but whining gearbox isn't good news..

the stig 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Sorted, the propshaft was pushing on the gearbox and was putting everything out. Anyone have a propshaft for an e36 320i (1991-1995) or 325i (1991-1995)?
