entscheidend 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2009 2 days ago I noticed a large puddle of coolant under the car, so I did a little searching and noticed there is a stream of coolant running from the bottom of the water pump down to the ground. Could this be a gasket issue or the water pump telling me something? For some time now I can hear a grinding noise coming from drive belts but havnt stuck a stethascope in there to know where it is coming from. Could this noise be the water pumps bearings? Water pump was replaced brand new 8 months ago. Water pump stuffed or gasket issue? car: E39 540i M62

Water pump stuffed or gasket issue? car: E39 540i M62 Don't know how different yours would be to mine, I had a similer problem with what started as a strange noise. Then all of a sudden that strange noise turned into a rather very larger sound as the pump bearing gave way and in doing so threw the belts off and destroy all my fan fins and a few other bits and pieces. If you can get old of your fan give a good check by pulling up and or sideays on it and you will soon tell if the bearings are on the way out.
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted July 11, 2009 It will be either water pump, hoses or the water cooled alternator if yours has a water cooled alternator. My advice........DONT DRIVE.... till its repaired
