Say goodbye to spark plugs, a 19th century technology about to be supplanted by lasers. The U.K. paper The Telegraph reports that Ford is working with the University of Liverpool to develop a laser ignition system for internal-combustion engines. That's right: engines with frickin' lasers strapped to their heads.

I think it's called Valvetronic isn't it? On the latest 3 series engines.

I remember Valeo trialing a camless engine a few years back. Not sure who its was for - possibly PSA (Peugeot/Citroen).

lasers would be a bit more expensive to replace than spark plugs!!!

i believe this is what you are looking for

it has cams but none of the drag of compressing springs

designed to allow v8s to rev out to 16000 +rpm

search rotary valve engine in google for full info
