jjs 64 Report post Posted August 30, 2009 Hi all - I know this isn't a mobile phone forum but thought I could try a few of you tech experts for some help! I bought a Sony Ericsson W995 from Telecom on Friday. So far I'm pleased with it, it's pretty cool having an 8MP camera on your phone! I wouldn't mind using the phone to surf the net a bit. I asked the guys at the Telecom store about this, but they were abut evasive about what data plan I should get. Probably makes sense to go on a data plan rather than being raped by Telecom. Was thinking of getting the 120MB plan ($12) - will this last long? To check emails and surf the net occassionly, how much data would I be downloading? The other question is downloading applications. Is there somewhere on the net I can get games and apps which I can then transfer onto the phone, or can I only download them from Telecom? The phone has demo games loaded which are cool, but frustrating as I want full versions! Thanks for you help!
Guest Simon* Report post Posted August 30, 2009 I nearly bought the other 995 phone a while back - it had wifi instead of the walkman features which I thought was pretty cool. For vodafone rather than telecom though so I can't help you there. The sony-ericsson site has free games apps etc quite often.
DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2009 i'm on the vodafone iphone plan. I've got 250mb download and i don't go anywhere near it... It depends on what you using it for... emails, forums,etc... or youtube and interactive sites...
my_e36 43 Report post Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) I've got a Telecom SE W705 about 7 weeks ago, on the $6 20MB plan. I use it for email (3-4 times a week), browse stuff.co.nz, ZDNet and NZHerald on WAP (2-3 times a week). Occassional TradeMe and Facebook mobile (once or twice a week). I still have a few MB left at the end of the month. As long as you stay away from YouTube, you're cool. You can check your MB usage under "Your Telecom" in the TWorld menu which is update to 30 minutes. As for the apps, I have tried downloading new apps thru WAP (both WiFi and 3G) from a couple of non-NZ site without problem. I am sure you can also download on to PC, transfer to mem-card (thru card reader or SE Data Suite) onto the correct folder, the phone will recognise it automatically. jjs 64 Report post Posted September 1, 2009 Free mobileTV launched today on XT Well for three months anyway. 100% free? Or do I still need to pay for the data when video is streaming?

Gaz 1061 Report post Posted September 1, 2009 Most demo games have an option where you can download the full version and that will link you through and you can download it from there. If you need help with your phone, Telecom is offering a free 30min tutoring session, when you buy a new XT phone, to show you how to get the most outta your phone. At the moment, its only available at 6 stores up in Auckland but can't remember which ones off the top of my head. Will check tomorrow at work if you want. Forrest 35 Report post Posted September 1, 2009 Whats the 8MP camera like...can't believe they can cram that into a teeny phone.
my_e36 43 Report post Posted September 1, 2009 Another quick question - will this phone work on Vodafone? As the phones are not locked, yes. Voice call, text will work straight away when you swap SIM. Anything else that need data connection (PXT, WAP, internet) will need to setup first but it will. Worst case you won't get 3G due to different frequency, this means it might fall back on to old school GPRS.

Also: http://www.telecom.co.nz/askme I bought my phone at Queen Street. They were pretty useless and never told me anything about that. Whats the 8MP camera like...can't believe they can cram that into a teeny phone. Great having decent camera on me at all times! Picture quality is pretty good, the only downfall is the very average zoom.
