photoshop 7

how do i make an object eg trim, door handles, mirrors etc a different colour without fully deleting the object and colouring it? seems if im trying to go from black to white i loose all the objects outline and contrast etc

anyone know how?

there are several ways you could do it.... like sparkle said, if you post a pic im sure one of us could easily tell you how to...or do it for you even.

select what u want, desaturate it then use curves and colour balence to change colour,

alternatively you can layer a colour and blend it over

Sparkle, use the selection tool and outine the area you want to work with, what you do next is up to you:

You can start to draw, colour, whatever, and it will only affect the area that is encircled (or entrapezoided)...you can work on the exterior of that selection by inverting the selection from the toolbar.

The other option is after selecting the piece you can copy it to a new layer then lock the layers and work on the particular layer you want then merge the layers after your done.
