Jamez 2147483647 Report post Posted September 21, 2009 so im looking at brake options for the race car and since its got e36 hubs, thats what its got to fit Now I know that E36's and Holdens share the same wheels, but do they share similar brake's? do the rotors fit? do the calipers fit with relatively simple brackets? Just asking as these brakes on trademe are soooo tempting, 350mm rotors with 4pot calipers
JiB 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) What's your budget? There are probably better calipers out there - you can always use a holden/E36 hat with what ever disc you want to run? 1) work out what hat height you need 2) work out the widest practical rotor you can fit (keeping in mind the availability of rotors and calipers) 3) Maximise the rotor diameter (keeping in mind the caliper you have chosen (AFAIK a majority of calipers will fit with relatively simple brackets). If I were to do my BBK again, the above is what I'd do. From my limited knowledge - I'd place rotor width over rotor diameter - bigger increase in thermal capacity. My 2c. edit: On second thought - the E30 probably isn't all that heavy, so perhaps aim for the largest diameter your can squeeze in the wheel...You'd be hard pressed to fit 350mm's in 17"s imho Edited September 21, 2009 by JiB
westy 614 Report post Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) The hat height of that doesn't look promising. Too tall? From the outside face of the E46 disc 30mm (cant measure the total height without taking the disc off). There's a sh*t load of good sized discs that fit (330 both M3s etc). Edit: The discs i have measure 22mm so I guess that makes a total of aproxx 52mm. Edited September 21, 2009 by westy
Boost Junky 1 Report post Posted September 22, 2009 Go with the M5 Rotors from a 540i i forget what year when i looked it up at work today. They are 325mm OD i think? and they are 30mm thick then you can use the GTS-t skyline R32 6pot calipers which fit over 30mm rotors, im probably going to do that or use the E46 calipers with the 330i rotors.
