Say for example. . . .

Recommended Posts

In the middle of a cam belt replacement, someone accidentally spun the engine over for about 1 sec and after it was put back together, it missed like crazy.

What are the likely scenarios?

I hope you don't mean they cracked the engine with the starter??

Stationary valves and a moving bottem end isn't going to end up good with a interference engine. Pretty much like breaking a timing belt, the pistons all get hit into the valves, bending them. On the odd occasion they break through the tops of the piston too.

Bent valves or the belt has jumped a teeth or 2.

By the sounds, the timing is out. Recheck timing. If that's fine, pull the head again. Ouch.

Yes I know the likely scenario is not good, let's hope for a timing belt jump. Not optimistic though.

What actually happened??

spun by hand or cranked over with no belt on?

I think since it is running, that is a good start.

If the belt wasnt on when it was turned over, you will have bent a valve or two. You can check this first before taking the head off with a cylinder leak test.

Cranked on the starter, not sure if the belt was on loosely or not as I wasn't there. Guess I won't be heading to Wgtn tomorrow after all, unless I get real lucky.
