E30_318i 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 seems there always was a substitute for cubic inches - decent engineering & technology!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :gay: Just wait a couple of years. The upcoming HSVs are going to rape the M5. GM (Bob Lutz) has already said he is going to build a motor to compete with the M5s V10, without all the tech as we all know its not necessary, for a Chev/Holden anyway :mosh: I've got a vid of a stock XW GT 351 going round Bathurst, and f**k its the best sounding engine I've ever heard, seriously 2nd: old school ford or holden as in pre 1980 own big time My bad, when I said anything older is :puke: , I was thinking of the everyday VLs, VNs, EAs etc. Now they are sh*t heaps. Atleast they never stop running.
Guest Spargo Report post Posted January 5, 2005 That has to be the funniest thing i've read all day. You do realise that HSV can never build a proper car, as their market dictates no car over 120K? When an M5 is another 130K worth, thats alot of coin to spend on stuff HSV can only dream about. Any HSV raping an M5... Yea right. (i'm fully sending that to tui for their competition, back off). Laugh if you want, but have you seen the specs for this engine supposedly going into the next GTS? They get a new platform next model upgrade (06), not the sloppy thing they are based on now, so your opinion might change by the time it lands.
martyyn 2 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Just wait a couple of years. The upcoming HSVs are going to rape the M5. Your having a laugh mate....The E39 M5 is widely considered as the best sports saloon ever made.....what makes you think HSV are ever going to be described as such ? Dont get me wrong Im a huge HSV fan, but better than an M5....I dont think so. Cheers Martyn
CaM 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 dude the tech that holden is just starting to grab hold of is old news with jap and euro companies, hell, holden and ford can't even build their own "small cars" such as ford lasers, telstars, couriers, econovans, holden barina astra vectra rodeo etc, all badge engineering..... apparently the ecotec v6 is even built by suzuki!! holden and ford were still using single point injection and or carbs into the late eighties/early nineties..... vl commodore was probably the best in comparrison to it's predecessors - mainly because of the use of nissan running gear, but ruined by sh*t electrics.......... HSV and FPV will always be two steps behind everybody else because of their lacking technology, hell, multi valve overhead cam is still high tech to them, and race peugeots had that sh*t in 1900!! the only reason holdens and fords are so "crack hot" is because the only real racing series they are "cool" in is the one that monopolised by the two companies, and not letting any other manufacturer into the series, V8 SUPERCARS, yup........ Let Lexus LS400s, BMW V8s, Nissan V8s and sh*t like that in and they'll be all over the podium like ugly is on whoopi goldberg

Cheers Martyn A bit of an exageration I suppose, but I won't be suprised if it will out perfom the M5, for the price atleast. The new GTS is supposed to be getting a 7.0L alloy pushrod V8, something like a 7000rpm limit, 500hp and I would imagine a bit more torque than the M5. But yeah, an M5 has something that a Holden never will.dude the tech that holden is just starting to grab hold of is old news with jap and euro companies, hell, holden and ford can't even build their own "small cars" such as ford lasers, telstars, couriers, econovans, holden barina astra vectra rodeo etc, all badge engineering..... apparently the ecotec v6 is even built by suzuki!! But why would they do that? They can't afford to, and the stuff they get from other GM/Ford companies is better than anything they could make. Apparantly, it was all over for Ford Australia if the BA turned out like the AU (sales flop), so them making a car a car for a smaller market share just wouldn't be viable, would it? Well, Range Rover and Roll Royce couldn't make their new cars so I suppose its alright for Holden/Ford. HSV and FPV will always be two steps behind everybody else because of their lacking technology, hell, multi valve overhead cam is still high tech to them, and race peugeots had that sh*t in 1900!!Don't know why everybody goes on about how advanced over head cams are. The two designs (ohv & ohc) are about 5 years apart, with ohv being the first, in the mid 1900s I think. But hey, if it aint broke, don't fix it, right? Thats what GM has done, and look at their 'old' new LS2. Shitting all over Ford and their DOHC so called 'BOSS' engines. It should be a different story when Ford finally get some VVT in there, but as of now, those three extra cams and 16 extra valves aren't doing sh*t, apart from adding to the weight, physical size and complexity. the only reason holdens and fords are so "crack hot" is because the only real racing series they are "cool" in is the one that monopolised by the two companies, and not letting any other manufacturer into the series, V8 SUPERCARS, yup........ True, too many sheep for my liking. But if you were a new car buyer, it would be hard to overlook their bang for bucks.
petone 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I try not get to involved in the whole brand x is better than brand y debate but i got to agree with E30-318 on the whole DOHC thing. Who cars if holden/chev/hsv engines don't have dohc/vvt/etc? They still make 400hp and carry their weight much lower than fords BOSS engines. Not that 0-100 times are everything but despite the extra technology the holdens are still roughly half a second faster than the ford equivalent. Sure it doesn't have the technology of a Skyline GTR, S2000 or M3/5, as its not supposed to, defeats the whole purpose, but f**k, atleast GM are showing the it still can be done (actually, so is Dodge, TVR and Bently, to name a few), and are giving it to some of the 'advance' competition in the process. Seriously, out of all the people that go off about pushrods, on forums and real life, most seem to drive little Hondas, Toyotas etc. who think that hp/L is the greatest measurement around, cos thats all the only thing that makes their cars look good, on paper. Yet they will give sh*t to a Corvette or Viper because where the cam is positioned :gay: I think I've already posted this. The mighty Windsor sitting next to the 4.6 dohc from the Mustang. Just a pic I find quite interesting :mosh:
