timing chain

Hey all im new to the world o euro cars and so far i can say there great cars to drive i need to know if my 1997 320i has got a timing chain or a belt have seen lots of different answers and would like to get the right one any help would be great.

welcome man , you need to post pics and location!, a e36 320 is a timing chain engine.

welcome dude.. yeah 97 have a timing chain. dont need to replace it. although may need to adjust it at some point..

on that matter.. where can me gets a timing chain tensioner for my e36? how much do those cost?

havn't heard of any problems with timming chains on these engines .

Dealt with M42`s with broken timing chains. Use tensioners from M44`s on them. Much more reliable.

M50`s and M52`s don`t seem to have the same problems. M60B30 baby 8 has them breaking alot.
