I personally wouldn't go for a 316i there too under powered, I'd get atleast a 318i. From what i've seen the e30 320i's are the most popular. I'd deffently buy another one.

To his defence I think he means popular as in greatest number sold new or most popular model. In which case he is correct.

What SIRe30's trying to say is that, of the standard non-M cars. The 325i's and 318i's (especially in their M325i and 318iS variants) are the more popular. (or should that be "desirable"?)

The 320i's are somewhat the lost middle child taking not enough of their bigger brother's (325i) performance attributes, or the handling and fuel mileage typical of the smaller 318i.

We all agree that the 316i's aren't much chop unless you're after a frugal city car and are set on an e30.

320i's are certainly more common than most of the others.
