robyntan 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Hi everyone We have spoken to two auto electricians about the electrics in the seats of my 1998 1.9 ltr Z3. One said that it might not be just the switch, and may be the brushes in the motors. Has anyone here heard of that before? I will likely book it in next week to have it checked as I don't want to pay for new switches and then find out is is the motors that are the problem. It seems that the seat electrics are an extremely common fault...but I would have thought someone would have figured out WHY and created a FIX. Anyway, just looking for your insights and knowledge! *Glenn* 854 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Its normaly stretch in the cables that give problems. These can be modified. The seat frame bushes also give issues. BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) have seen a few seats with worn brushes in the motors , some times you can adjust them out a bit to get them working again ( have done a few like that) , also have seen a few z3's with water damage (corrosion in the motors and switches etc ) from top been left down in heavy rain etc . you can test the motors by unplugging them and hooking up a 12volt battery to the terminals to see if they work switches also just fail (due to over use and arching), easy job to swap over Edited October 29, 2009 by Brent HARTGE535i Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
