Jamez 2147483647 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 the e36 m3 evo engine in our racecar is getting 330bhp with an aftermarket ECU, hasn't had any engine mods or a rebuild, but I have read its common for them to only get 300bhp hope that helps
westy 614 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 and the EVOs hardly ever hit there stated 321BHP mark... On chassis dynos?? I wouldn't read anything into that. They are at best a close estimate of power. Try driving one and see what you think.
E36 2 Report post Posted December 8, 2009 I wanted an E36 M3 combination road and track day use and spent quite a lot of time researching this question before I bought mine. The consensus I reached after reading a lot of articles and talking with people who had built reliable E36 M3 race cars was that although the Evo has more horsepower as standard, the 3.0L model is far more robust with its bullet proof block and relatively trouble-free single vanos. Horsepower isn't everything, as with suspension tweaks, brake upgrade, weight savings, intake & ECU upgrades (the list goes on...) I felt that it was an excellent base to build from that would give me reliable performance.
