Windscreen + bead

Recommended Posts

F/L E30 sedan

Have put in the seal, got the window into the seal...

How the f**k are you meant to put the bead in? I'm guessing your not meant to slide it all the way through.

Have tried sitting it over the groove and using various utensils to jam it into the seal but nada.

Any ideas?

Blunt Butter Knife + Patience + CRC/insert appropriate lubricant here: = Success.

Or go buy the proper tool from Ripco and do it fast as.

Took me about 3 hours to do front and back windows, I did it on a ultra hot day so the sun helped soften the rubber, maybe wait for a blazing hot day in Dorkland

Hook one side into the seal then work on sliding the other in, and swap sides for the corners, it will work, just is a PITA job.

Hope that helps Ashkan.

Have lubed the sh*t out of it and still no luck.

Sorry Nath, I am really crap at picturing how stuff works... Are you saying you do feed it all the way through? Or press it over the groove then press it in?

Hope that makes sense.

As Nath said, PITA job, I've done 8 or 10 now, race cars get stone breaks. Patience is the answer, and soapy water, a bit of dishwashing detergent does the trick. Must get the proper tool next time, seen them at SCA.

push it into the groove on one side and then ease the other side in and slowly work your way around. Don't try to start in a corner.

^^ Have one side of the bead sitting in the groove in the seal, then with your knife, lever the other side of the seal over the bead and it should lock in, with a sliding motion as the bead presses into the seal as you move up/down the window.

Give me a call if you want to borrow it ... or copy the design.

I would like to see the design to create my own.

Where do you buy new windscreen seals anyway?
