sascha 17 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Oh yeah, i have seen those on trademe. Whats the main differences between the xyz coilovers and d2s? i noticed that the rears are not infact coilovers, is there any negatives about keeping the suspension this way? i presume it makes installing them easier because you just replace standard parts with the xyz parts? Sorry for noob questions
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 True coil over setups for an e30 rear are alot of work, only ones made are very expensive but they involve bracing the rear shock towers, as BMW just designed them to take the force of the shock, the trail arm and chassis take the spring. If you have the rear setup with the spring on the rear shock tower it adds waaay more force to the weak rear towers so you need to brace and reinforce them. There is nothing wrong with how these are, GC coil overs and other top brand suspension do the same. it is still adjustable and so forth. Just going true coil over in the rear can be an expensive exercise to do it right. d2's are sh*t IMO. They leak and have quite a bad rep for it.. sascha 17 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 So this xyz suspension setup will be good? does any one know can you adjust the stiffness of the ride or only height? Indecorous is your price negotiable at all?
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 Spring rates determine how stiff they are. I'd imagine you could change out the springs for stiffer ones?
Boyce 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 I wouldnt recommend D2s ever having worked with them and replaced numerous broken sets of them I would trust them as far as I could through them. Those XYZs look like a good set up you'll be able to adjust the damppning as well which will make the ride feel stiffer or softer, however I wouldn't swap out the springs for higher rates as most of them will come with an F8kg R6kg set which if your using it on the street even just to drive it to the track these rates are really harsh on NZ roads Im using them in my Wagon currently and have used them in my last 5 cars if anything you'll probably want to swap out for a lower rate to softn the ride Im using BC gold Coilovers in mine which work great but are not off the shelf items however I do have the contact details for a guy who can get them with minimal effort if your interested.
