Alarm into E30

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am looking at putting an Uniden alarm into my 1986 e30. I was just wondering if anyone here has done it before .

So far from what I have gathered is you need an extra relay to get the central locking to work as the motors require a bigger trigger.

Any advice would be great! Or maybe if a different brand is better eg AVS

Cheers Ben

You're better off to pay someone to install one, as it's not that much to have done anyway, and the insurance company will recognise it if you have it professionally installed.

^^ This. i installed mine and then found out the insurance company wouldnt recognise that so i pulled it all out and took it to get "professionally" installed, read: put back together the way i did it haha

True for above - I am an authorised installer. May not be a requirement for an E30 though. -Check with your insurer

Re alarms - I would say bin the Uniden option.

There are plenty of good alarms available - Mongoose, Dynatron, AVS etc

Any decent one will connect straight to the locking module in the car, Uniden (older units anyway) often required a separate interface.

They're pretty well priced imo, a mate had one fitted into his 500SE (which blew up a month later - I beleve I said "I told you so") for about $550
