Problems With My Bimmer.

Recommended Posts

hi there I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction, I have bought a 2001 525i (JAP Import) NZ new E39, to start with I have been having problems with the ABS light intermittently coming on maybe it's my style of driving I'm not too sure but it comes on and not long after that the automatic transmission Failsafe light switches on and gives me just 1 gear to work with, or crawl home with...not good, are they related? the final problem I am having relates to the airconditioner, it worked when I drove it off the lot but I had switched it off because it was cold and when I switched it back on because of the heat it decided not to work at all really confused right now...this is a really awsome looking vehicle and drives beautifully when everything is working the way it was designed to, I hope to sort out the above and continue learning more about this vehicle and driving as much as possible to get use to it's manner on the road....please help me!!!!!.

Should not be doing that if its a NZ new Jap import thats only two weeks old.

Take it back to the dealer and ask for a refund. You have the right to do so and is your best bet.

Say you take it in and have them fix it them are going to have the cheapest second hand gearbox they can find fitted buy the doggiest fresh import mechanic they can find as to have it fixed properly will run them a small fortune. Have had it happen to me and have seen it happen to others time and time again.

Only 2 weeks, I would be going back to them and having these problems fixed so it does not cost you $$, You can and will be offered advice to what the problem is on here but why pay for things yourself if its the responsibility of the car lot to make sure your car is in the condition you expect of it.

And by the way welcome to the forum, you will find a wealth of information and helpful people.

P.S pics, pics pics :D

First off. I don't know where you guys get the idea that KiwiSA has only had this car for 2 weeks. I have re-read the first post several times and can't find any reference to 2 weeks.

Secondly, I am confused, is the car a Jap import or a NZ new vehicle?

Thirdly, the best advice I can give is take the car to a BMW specialist for a diagnostic scan and discuss with him as to what your course of action should be.

2 weeks is in the thread title...

I think he means it's a fresh import. ie, first NZ owner.

I agree, Or if it was sold via a dealer, take it back and demand satisfaction.

Thanks Micheal.

In that case he has to take it back to the dealer. KiwiSA, can you PM me and tell me who the dealer was you purchased the car from and I can advise you what your next course of action should be. I am an Auckland dealer and know a lot of the dealers here.

Just brought this nine year old dog from Japan, but I'm the first NZ owner, so proud to be the first owner of this mystery prize in another country, somehow shipping someone else's unwanted flee ridden mongrel to another country makes it a new puppy.

Take it back and run to the hills.

hehe I'm afraid of dodgy mechanics who add to the problem rather than to fix it which will lead onto other problems and on and on we go, thankyou for the advice.

Hi Cosmos, the vehicle is NZ New but a second hand Jap import 2001 525i with M trim and tiptronic/Inline straight six, it had 122,000km on the clock when I purchased and it has been in my possession for 2 weeks, no worries I would prefer to take the vehicle to a BMW Specialist and fix the problems once and there is one around the corner from where I live but on the other hand the vehicle has a full comprehensive Insurance cover attached to it including life on myself and redundancy if I am ever forced out of my current job.

No worries COSMOS as soon as I get over my fits of laughter I will let you know who the dealer is..I will say here though is that this company worked extremely hard on my behalf to gain a competitive financial package and Insurance package which spanned over 3 day's so I respect them for sticking to their guns and not giving up...but yes they need to take a second look at the vehicles and match them to their service.

by all means take it to someone else(and i suggest Botany Motor Worx) but surely at only two weeks it is the dealers respon$ibility to actually repair.

Similar problem to me - bought a Jap import 325 touring Mspec E46 from Auckland yard, great guy and service, very knowledgeable, about 5 days after picking it up back in Hamilton the engine check light came on, I took it to the local BMW dealer to diagnose with his permission and the Auckland yard paid for the repairs, no problems. Just ask!!

The problems you are currently having with your car are not covered by the warranty you have as they are pre-existing conditions. You will not be able to repair these problems using your warranty.

Because the dealer has sold you a vehicle which is 'not fit for purpose', you have a claim under the 'Consumer's Gaurantees Act'.

He must be given the opportunity to rectify all the problems or reimburse you for the full cost of the car. The problem I have here (without knowing who the dealer is) will he do a proper job on the repairs by sending the car to a BMW specialist, or get a 'backyarder' to do a bodgey job.

KiwiSA. I have sent you a PM.

Thankyou all for your help and encouragement and best of all your laughter...I will go back to the dealer and have a chat and leave the vehicle with them to rectify, in the meantime I can scout through the forums and learn as much as I can regarding bimmers and add ons for them...looking forward to the next round of talks.
