Importing BMWs from the UK

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Has anyone here sourced a BMW from the UK. Would appreciate if you could share some info on where to buy and which shipping companies to use etc. Have to do this as I prefer manual and they are very rare in NZ.

Thanks in advance :)

cant express the rust issue enough. i took an angle grinder to an ex-UK E30 (cutting it up to be removed for scrap) and a bread an butter knife would have been just as effective in both floor pans. What model are you looking at importing?

Hi & Welcome

Good time to look at UK imports as the GB Pound is relatively cheap at the moment. I have imported 2 BMWs ex UK and both have had no rust issues. It depends how old the car is you are looking at.

Where to buy ... easy ...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/CARS/buying/buying_a_car.jsp

There is a lot of info on UK importing on this forum so try the search function for threads like this one ...

http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....mp;hl=uk+import

Like most here, happy to give you additional info if the numbers stack up. Like Andrew asked , what model are you thinking about ? If you can let us know the estimated price in pounds, I can give you an indication on the NZ on road price will be.

I am looking at getting a 330 E46 or possibly an E36 M3 (not sure if these meet compliance requirements though). I did consider rust, but I think most modern cars should be ok, will get it checked out beforehand.

The E36 M3 cannot currently be imported and used on the road, need to wait a few years until they are over 20 years old and then can be road registered. E46 should be Ok if you can't wait until then.

Another good site for more private sales, rather than the dealers on Auto Trader, is www.pistonheads.co.uk especially good for M3s and performance BMWs.

You can get e46 m3s here for around 40k so probably not worth it I would think.

Nicely done, I'd rather the Manual myself but still very good all the same. Where absolutely possible I'd rather a NZ New vehicle anyday.

Hi there

Sorry if I'm jacking this thread lol, but I also am considering importing a bmw, from UK i guess

I'm looking for a BMW 135i (only 1 used for sale, rest at dealers for $80k+)

or BMW 125i (this model is not sold in nz)

I'm just curious..

1. what would the average cost be of importing a bmw from the UK if it's like 2008+ model (eg. 135i)

2. Is it just a matter of finding a dealer who's willing to ship it to us or what?

3. is autotrader.co.uk the place to look?

or what about japan? i can't find a decent website that has japanese stock. can someone link me

Cheers

Those 135i's are supposed to be the jazz. I seen the review Australian Top Gear done on it a while back. Be good to hear how they are in the real world.

Allow $NZ 6k to handle shipping ex England in a container then GST & fees here at port. If serious, I can give you better indication in a spreadsheet once you tell me the cost in GBP.

Best option is to buy it yourself in England on a holiday and I can give you advise on getting it back. It will be hard to buy ex England and ship doing it remotely. Autotrader is the Trademe equilivent.

Japan is a WHOLE lot easier.

Company to sign up with is ...

http://www.kadoco.co.jp/

If you want to see listings, this is the link to the main site of 70,000 cars a week but if you have to ask Kadoco about what the pricing is going to be.

USS auction data at http://bzl.cis6200.jp/e/

Please enter the homepage with ID number E72823

Best time to look at the selection available is on Wednesday

Hope this helps

Ron

^^ Not sure if you noticed, but that dealer is in Northern Ireland, might make it a bit more difficult to import. Interesting place for a holiday as well  !

One dealer to steer well clear of on AutoTrader is Big Motoring World, the guy has been around for years under different names, all starting with BMW, keeps getting taken to court by BMW Ag. not surprisingly. He specialises in used BMWs, but most are base model ex-lease or ex-rental with moon miles, some allegedly clocked back, chucks some replica alloys and a leather interior on them to sell as higher spec cars.

Absolutely no interest in the car once sold, even threatened my mate with "I know where you live" just because he asked for the service books to the car he had bought and been promised!!

no luck with that japanese one

anyway I found one example on autotrader.co.uk

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/adv...201006352246563

23,995 pound

So how much you reckon that'd cost delivered to NZ including import taxes or watever

Sorry for delay - was in Akl at Top Gear :)

On road in New Zealand incl everything .... $NZ 67,800

isn't that roughly the same as what the one on Trademe was going for?

would be a lot easier, quicker and safer to buy locally wouldn't it?

Thanks for that.

What about this. 2003 Mercedes CLK55 AMG. 14,995POUND.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/adv...01008353275194/

Google says thats roughly 32,000NZD.

What cost can i expect on this landed in NZ?

Have sent you a PM but for those reading the thread, it would land on road for $NZ 44,200
