tibbs.james 1 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 Well sam I should have called you today because my helper ( professional Mechanic ) failed to turn up So i undertook the entire process myself proving how much WIN I actually have bad news is I can't even have an engine dragon photo because I'm on my own SO today was like Ok lets remove the gearbox *can't pull the gearbox off because the headers are in the way *can't take headers off because chassis rail is in the way * can't lift motor up to help the angles because headers are stuck around the steering and it just rotates to one side and smashes into brake booster and cylinder *when the gearbox is mostly loose it can't come back far enough because of the transmission tunnel *Can't slide the motor foward away from the gearbox due to the massive ness of the 1UZ-FE *when gearbox is 90% out it fouls on the oxygen sensors which can't be undone as they jambed against the bell housing of the gearbox making it more stuck in place *When gearbox is free from engine and 7 of the 8 bolts are undone the last bolt can not be undone as engine casting is in the way of the spanner and going underneath was again impossible due to the header looping all over the show. *so if anybody ever complains to me about their swap being a tight fit I am going to make you eat your glovebox But yeah pics for all to enjoy 7 hours straight no breakfast no lunch to get this done

Sammy J 1 Report post Posted February 6, 2010 lol the m60 is a bigger motor than the 1uz so i totally understand what you mean about tightness in engine bays
tibbs.james 1 Report post Posted February 6, 2010 Yeah thinking about it Brent it would have been a good way to do it, However the guy that did the conversion in the first place told me how to do it, and I did exactly as he said only he had a hoist and a helper or 3. I am thinking that when the motor goes back in it will be easier to slide in the motor and box, bolt the headers onto the block as its lowered down and slide the steering through the headers after the fact. Perhaps as you say Brent have the cross member lowered down to allow more maneuvering room while lowering it all back into place. Removing the steering rack before the motor goes back in will help a lot.
