Im interested in getting a little more power out of my E34 530i M30B30. Where is the best place to start?.

Replace it with an M30B35

Cam change on mine was worth 20 hp, headers should be worth another 10 to 15.

I just had more duration ground into my existing cam, wasn't very costly at all, done by Franklin Cams in Pukekohe.

Ooops, mine is a B35, that would be the first change.

The 3ltr is a sweet runner but you are better off following others advice & dropping in a 3.5ltr or just buy a 535is.(not really a 3.5, actual cc is 3430)

To give you some idea what gains are locked away in a 'good' M30b35 i gained approx 23hp@wheels running piggyback map system + headers.(supplied by wayney on bimmer)

23 wheel HP equates to approx 27 flywheel HP @ 15% drivetrain loss on a manual 5 speed.

Headers only gained approx 5HP@ wheels on stock engine but i'm sure with some internal engine work the headers would come into their own.

HP figures quoted are from a Dyno Dynamics dyno in shoot out mode, not fantasy dyno's that exist.

depends whats your budget and what you are trying to get out of it .

remap or chip or a piggy back system will give 5-10 hp maybe

headers about 5hp

3.5 conversion 20-30hp depending on which engine year you choose.

realistically a 3.5 engine swap is the best bang for buck

engines go for anything from $500 to $1000 depeding on history and who you buy it from

costs about 1 to 2 days in labour costs .

or sell it and buy a 535is

Stroke it and increase compression and change the cam
