The guy rang me up today and I gave him the quote i got for 461 and he said thats way too much and wants me to take my car to his panel beater and get it quoted by him to compare the price.

At the end of the day, its still my choice to which panel beater I choose right?

Yes, under law you are entitled to end up with the car in the same condition / better condition after repairs. I have had a similar problem, and i took it all the way to small claims court, because if you hit some one, i believe you should pay the price. You are in the right. Technically if insurance is covering it, a insurance evaluator will decide which panel beater, but i am unsure how this would be decided if it were between you two parties. I would just be prepared to take it to small claims court. So start documenting some of the facts, and your recap of the event.
