E30 brake bar - help!

Recommended Posts

Long story short, the thread on the passenger side end of my brake bar is forked. I've been trying to gently re thread it with a die for the last hour or so but I'm not having any luck - it keeps wanting to run cross threaded.

Its m10 x 1.5

Besides removing the steering column and heater box (to be able to replace the brake bar), what can I do?

I just don't have the experience to use this die properly. I will pay someone to come and fix the thread if they are willing.

The bar is threaded left hand at one end, right at the other if i remember, to allow the adjustment of the pedal and booster.

You are probably trying to match left to normal (right hand ) threads. My advice would be to cut the 2 or 3 threads off and put it back, its normally got lots of spare on the end.

Fixed! Left hand thread it is. One of those situations where a little thought would have saved me a day of stressing. oh well.

Thanks to John for calling it first and Glenn for being helpful on the phone.
