Mador 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 Hey I have a 1990 E34 525i, was just wondering if anyone knows what needs to be replaced when you get that annoying knock from turning the steering wheel one side to the other, just one solid thump, Must be a bush or something, Cheers, Ben
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 It could be shocks, strut mounts, control arm bushes, sway bar links, suspension ball joints or steering ball joints and the list goes on. If you can't isolate the problem yourself, I suggest you get it checked by a professional.
cliffdunedin 8 Report post Posted April 28, 2010 I had a similar noise from my e36. After a bit of playing around and pulling some of the steering rack apart...but finding nothing, i put it back together this time greasing the joints...bingo no noise! Might be worth an hour or so under the car!

Apex 693 Report post Posted April 28, 2010 Ah yea sorry. After owning a few cars now I have come to the conclusion that Tie Rod ends and steering joints are the number one wearing component on a vehicle bar tyres. Take it to a pro Mador, as implied it could be one of many things.
