E9 CSL's in NZ?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how many E9 CSL's are in New Zealand?

I know of 4, (black, blue, white & red) and my Father drove an orange one in the 80's (is this car still around?).

What made me ask is because I bumped into a client of mine today who was out at the supermarket in her Fathers CSL.

Hi there, I have a friend, Alan who is the oracle of all 70's and 80's BMW's (not to mention modern ones too) who may be able to help with your query. Alan is a member too, but not sure that he reads the topics here too often. He has a blue E9 csi.

I will ask him to respond to your query...

Ive just found a orange 1973 CSL in NZ.

Sadly 4 or the 5 CSL's I know about have there licences on exemption.

There used to be 2 in Wellington, owned by the same person.

One was orange and used in Targa a few times, the other , last time i saw it, was being built as a targa car as it was not so good in condition and the Orange one ws going to be put back as a road car.

I think as the 3.0CSL, 3.0CS, 3.0CSi, 2800CS, 2800CSi all look VERY similar, i wonder how many people are confusing a base model 2800CS with a true factory spec' 3.0CSL.

Model and amount made.

2800 CS 6283

2800 CSA 1949

3.0 CS 4455

3.0 CSA 3667

3.0 CSi 7935

3.0 CSiA 2

3.0 CSi RHD 207

3.0 CSiA RHD 215

3.0 CSL 765

3.0 CSL RHD 500

2.5 CS 600

2.5 CSA 244

2800 CS USA 641

2800 CSA USA 526

3.0 CS USA 1368

3.0 CSA USA 1189

Total E9 Production Between 1968 and 1975. 30,546

Yes but, how many E30 318-325 are registered as M3's?, i know of 'bout 7.

Also E34 fake M5's? there's 4 in New Plymouth alone.

New Zealand registration records are vague to absolute crap to say the least, i would put NO faith in it at all.

These two are CSL's as they are alloy paneled.

I assume this is correct?

Quite possibly mate.

However BMW did do parts run-outs for the E9 and E3, not to mention euro' tuners doin' aftermarket panels and stuff.

Bloody hard to verify E9's of ANY model.

Lots of good info' here tho'.
