E36 reverse light not turning on

hey,

I came across a little problem when Nick noticed that I was reversing but my reversing lights weren't on so I thought it was the bulbs so just then I went to repco and just bought myself a pair of the bulbs but when I put them on, they never turned on when I put shift the car to reverse gear..

Anyone got any ideas on this?

My guess would be either the switch needs to be replaced. here is a DIY for it

or there is a short. Most likely between the boot and boot lid

Wow cheers for the quick reply, I may think this might be the problem.

If there is a short between the boot and the bootlid wouldn't all the rear lights not work?

atm i have the same sorta problem. but mine is with the brake lights. all 3. found out that the problem is the brake light switch on the brake pedal.

check your fuse box first. find the fuse that corresponds to the rear reverse lights.

then next would probably be the reverse light switch.

Got it sorted and fixed at Glenn's workshop, better leave it to the pros haha!
