easiest way i found was to remove the motor, pull off rocker cover, remove the rocker shaft retaining key at the front of the head. gently knock the rockershafts out with something like a long extension, when the extension wont go any further you can put a rag around the bit of the shaft that is poking out and gently rotate it with vicegrips (be gentle) and rotate it back and forth while pulling it out. make sure you remove the rocker retaining clips and before the shafts are out keep the rockers and shafts all ordered and round the right way. the rockershafts are tapered so will only fit one way. then you can remove the cam, when refitting make sure the cam is on the lowest points when you put the rockers back onto it.

Out towards radiator. I've heard of it being done in the car before, not sure how that works though.. Remember to remove the locking tab that locks the shafts in place..

Gotcha, ive got a decent enough write up about it, but it was with the head off. I might do a write up with the engine in the car. See how i go

have heard of people removing radiator, removing engine mounts and sitting the sump on the cross member.. apparetly it drops it down just far enough for the cam to come out through the grille.
