M5V8 337 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) I've seen a few shots / videos recently where the model badge has been blacked out. http://www.modbargains.com/images/Products...an/m5badge1.jpg any idea how to or if anyone supplies in NZ? I'd rather not pay modbargins $70 USD just for a black badge Edited June 8, 2010 by M5V8
Lucan 196 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 I painted my 325i badge. The badges come off easily enough, i've heard of floss etc being used. Mask off the M stripes, clean and lightly sand the peice you want black. Apply as many light coats of satin/matt/gloss black, your choice, as it takes. Make sure you shake the can alot so the paints not to blodgy (real word?) Repco sells trim trape tape to stick it back on.

Have your badge chipped or flakes off? did you use primer? Edited June 8, 2010 by M5V8
Mark 178 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 Here's a link to how to paint kidney grilles black. Badges will be exactly the same except on a smaller scale. Paint supplies will cost you about $30 Black kidney grilles DIY
Lucan 196 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 No Primer, lightly sanding with a high grit will help the paint stick...you won't have a problem. And nope no flaking or chipping...yet
CarFolie 14 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) This is my personal opinion, but you should consider just tinting them black. I had my badges blacked out a few years ago, and I didn't go pitch black on those. Instead I took the badges to a painter and told him to add black tint to it. And he did it by adding some black paint into the clear coat and sprayed the 'blackish' clear on the badges. They turned out real nice, and looked like black chrome. I hate having chrome on cars, and love blacking out every single chrome part of the car. However I found tinting the badges actually looks way better than any black or gloss black paint. Just my two cents! Edited June 8, 2010 by Seth@CarFolie

CarFolie 14 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 WIN WIN WIN WIN!!! although the shipping cost three times the amount of the badge Oh yeah, that is a WIN! I love black chrome! If you had yours painted like I said above, you would get it look like the one on Ebay. But since that's so cheap, no point in taking yours to a painter!
