afm to maf

Recommended Posts

Hey guys...

i was pondering on this idea last night...

would i be correct in saying that if i found a maf sensor that had the same resistance/voltage values either end of the spectrum that i could swap it with the afm on my e30?

or is there more to it than that? also anyone know a potential candidate?

and what are the expected gains from doing this?

If you want to try canibalise a factory part onto it, there are people in the US (which is a hard comparison to make when there cars are like chalk and cheese to ours) but they use e36 320i MAF's with a piggy back chip IIRC.

MAPECU or something would be far better and worth the $ in the long run.

Do a search, been discussed heaps on here/ have a look on e30tech thats where I found info.

IMO Don't see the point in you modifying the M20 anyway Oli, save up for a M5x.

I used mapecu2 to convert to a maf sensor. Was around 900 all up but got great results, the accelerator was touchy as f**k!!!

Depending on the ecu/maf there are instructions online about how to do the conversion.

I know of a couple people going from a flap resistor style MAF to a hotwire MAF

yeah if i am going to have to piggy back the ecu and all i wont bother.. as nath said too much money on a m20. if i could throw one on that had the same reading values so the ecu didnt know the diff then i would. but if it involves much $$$ then no point.
