Lucan 196 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Right, So I did my GF's E36 sedan in Black Faux Suede in the weekend. Also did the pillars etc so theres no more grey cloth. Looks tops except a couple wrinkles I couldnt roll out around the map light area...Not my car and she loves it so nevermind. Will post pics at some point. I've got the itch and I want to do my E30 now........... Has anyone replaced theirs before? I have this write up r3v write up But it looks like a MISSION, taking out windscreens etc If anyone knows any secrets, hints with common problems, links with a good amount of flix, or wants to lend a hand ...it'd be appreciated! Lucan 196 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Painting will be the Plan B if it comes down to removing glass
Hartage 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Removing the glass is not that hard to do, remove the filler piece in the rubber, then using a flat blade screw driver and can of CRC silicone , spray under the rubber on the glass ( lifting the rubber edge ) all round the glass, then carefully and slowly push the glass out from the top edge and lift when its about half way down the pillar. Its not hard and putting it back is the reverse, lots of CRC silicone and ease the rubber back over the edge of the glass then put the filler back sprayed well, front and back much the same. Lucan 196 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Yeah I had to take out the windscreens when I painted the car. Taking them out was simple, putting back in on the other hand..... Also, since there's no board to stick it too (if that's correct?) will a flat cut of the same pattern work well? What holds up the middle etc? **I havn't done much research

Forrest 35 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 A easy $15 fix to make a beige e30 headliner black is to use the tyre black in a tin, paint on a couple light coats then a couple heavy and it looks good if your not to picky
Lucan 196 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) Wonder if black shoe polish would work Edited July 12, 2010 by Blackie
Forrest 35 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 ^ Lol. Honestly, tyre black works great, used on a few cars now with good results.
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 I can give you hand getting the glass back in. Use heat and lube and a tool that you can make with a spanner. It gets pretty easy with the right gear.
Greg111 13 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 That E36 headliner looks mint dude, did a good job.

Greg111 13 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Just did my parcel tray in the same stuff, came up quite well, did the headliner come out easy?
Lucan 196 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 I probably had the easiest car to try on. Sedan, no sunroof. All the trim came off a lot easier than expected. The hardest part was prying the headliner off up by the front windscreen, was almost glued on behind the map lights. Didn't need to take out the seats just a bit of wiggling and a slight bend got it out. Took about 20mins all up to get out, getting back in was even easier! Greg111 13 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Mine hasn't started yet, coupe will proberly be a bitch to get out.
Lucan 196 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 I imagine the sunroof would be a PITA.
zenetti 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 If you don't have a sunroof the coupe's are heaps easier as the doors are bigger and there is more room to get the hoodlining out.

Taken a headliner out of an E60 M5 and had to remove the whole sunroof mechanism, that was very testing.
