New Windscreen!

Probably the most boring topic anyone could ever create, but after waiting for two months from Smith & Smith my windscreen is finally replaced! With it, it's as if everything is slightly magnified, also there's a cool looking purple holographic type haze over it, does anyone know what this is or what it's for? Makes so much difference, the old one was pitted and munted, that & a massive crack on the passengers side...

Meant to ask the guy what the purple haze was but he did say that the screen was just over $3000!?!?!!!! Thank god for insurance hey.

Might be like an athermic screen, which blocks out UV rays and glare.

I know athermic screens mess up GPS.

Hmm, hasn't effected mine at all, BMW told me that it can mess up my radar detector too and it hasn't seemed to of. Are you talking about the plugin GPS or factory inbuilt GPS SAT NAV?

GPS is in the rear usually however im not so sure the x5.

The other thing with smith and smith is do you know if the part is geniune? as I have used them before and they use knock off stock got them to take it out and I just went with a OE one from JC BMW.

I made sure it was a genuine screen which is probably why it took so bloody long to arrive. @ the dealership they confirmed it is the genuine article. Yup, it was for the X5. I've had no issues with my radar detector or GPS.

Mate got one of those chineese knock off screens from smith and smith. Was like you were wearing someones prescription glases. They also used the ugliest generic seals I have ever seen.

Is why I made sure they ordered a genuine BMW one
