Mike 1 Report post Posted September 29, 2010 Are M325i any bigger than normal 325i or just an old wives tale? I always thought they were the same mechanically (with exception of LSD), as they dont have any more power I dont see why BMW would make halfshafts bigger on a car for the tiny NZ market. Unless of course they came off another model?

Unless of course they came off another model? Talking to Glenn, M325's have beefier joints, The shafts have a raised lump halfway down them, normal ones dont seem too, which makes it easy to tell them apart. My 323i Sport has no lumps FWIW. Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 Most 325's I've seen have those half shafts, not only the M325's, they are fairly common.

Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 More likely just a way to differentiate them from the standard ones.
Linden 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 Yeh the 325 ones have ridges, are much stronger and break off at the spline, the thinner shfted ones break the shaft inside the cv and break much easier as you can see here
