Speedometer working intermittently, suggestions appreciated.

1985 E30 318i

A couple weeks ago my speedo started working intermitently and now its working less than 30% of the time. I have a feeling the problem is at the intrument cluster end of the system as initially I was able to tap the speedo to get it to start working again. Took the instrument cluster out today and blew everything out and wiped some dirt off the circuit board, reinstalled and speedo is still not working. Tacho, fuel and lights still working fine, is there somewhere i should take my instrument cluster for them to look at/ resolder?

Have you looked at the speedo sender on the diff? unplug, and remove sender, clean all parts, reinstall and see how you go.

Get Robinson Instrument Services in Sales Street to check the cluster first

I got a used cluster for 20 bucks on Trade me... they don't take long to swap. I just swapped my speedo over for the k's
