Replacing e36 coupe 3/4 window

So some lil f*cker broke into my flatmates rear 3/4 window last night and stole his shoes, wallet and hat from the back seat.

How hard are these to replace? And has anyone got a spare drivers side window?

Not too hard.

From memory

-remove trim that has the back lights. un plug lights

-unscrew window opener thingy. Just 2 nuts

-unscrew top seatbelt anchor

-remove adjuster tab thing(this is a bitch to take off if you don't know what your doing) there's a little tab on the underside that needs to be pushed up

-remove trim around seatbelt height adjuster

-remove seatbelt height adjuster. I think this requires one of those special torx bits

-remove nuts behind, don't drop them

If i've got all this right then it should pop right out

Removal won't be an issue as they smashed it with a rock and there is none of it left. Installing the new one is more what I'm after.

As promised

Ok to start

-Get gum. I prefer extra white. Start chewing

-Remove rear seats and pop off side cushion nearest window

-Pop back and slide up the trim at the back with the lights.

-Should look like this now

-Remove the two bolts. You'll need an 8mm socket

-Continue to chew gum

-Unscrew the top seatbelt anchor. 16mm socket

-Remove seatbelt height adjuster. Push in tab that's underneath with a small flathead while pulling it out.

-Pull up the inner window trim and pull back the door card. You don't need to pull it right off just lean it away from the window.

-Pull back the door seal enough so you can remove the b pillar trim. Now you've got this

-Use a T40 torx bit and unscrew the seatbelt adjuster

-Now you need a deepish 10mm socket to undo the nuts that are set inside the panel. Chuck the gum you've been chewing in the socket so you don't loose the nut down the panel

Install is reverse of removal

And done

While you are at it, change the rubber around the 3/4 windows if they bothers you. Many E36's 3/4 windows rubber are tatty, rotting, dirty, etc...

Removing the windows is pretty much the only throughout way to do it properly.

This is my older post from changing window rubber. Almost the same procedure. Hope this helps.
