Shady 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 Am unsure if this has been posted before, but done a quick search and couldnt any. But my question, is can the PFL Manual mate up to the FL engine, or would the engine have to be changed to a PFL also? Or is there some kind of modification that can be done to mate them together? Only asking as I've seen an E30 PFL on Trademe with Manual all intact and may be worth looking at...but mine is FL and not too keen to swap the engine aswell if has to be. Any replies appreciated. Cheers guys.
BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 are you refering to a 318i or 320i etc . 318i m10 engine has a completely different bellhousing shape to the m40 engine. so not compatiable . but the m20 all use the same bellhousing. but earlier m20 gearboxes have a different gearshifter mech , but can be fitted 320i and 325i use different size gearboxes but bolt up ok just different driveshaft lengths
Shady 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 Bugger, the one I'm looking at is M10 and mine s M40. Can I not get a bellhousing for an M40 and put it on the M10 gearbox? Thanks heaps for the info Brent, much appreciated.

Shady 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) All good. Yeah was just looking at this car cos its quite cheap considering its got everthing required and then still has good body parts too. Will give it a miss, not worth swapping engine aswell...will wait until a cheap as chips M40 comes along with everything like the M10...thanks Brent.
