There seem to be a few on ebay for sale, But i don't know much which ones are any good. Has anyone had experience chipping m30 engine? Cheers
*Glenn* 855 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 A good tune & remap, possibly a AFM delete would be better....depends on your budget. Chips don't really achieve alot...every engine is different
kiwi535 538 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 a lot of the overseas e34 m30 chips are not compatible with our non cat/o2 sensor cars

BM WORLD 1286 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) have done a few M30b35 tunes over the years , not a lot of gain to be had with a off the shelf chip if any. a remap should give ok results maybe 5kw more at the wheels and little better torque though the med rev range. i think for these m30 engines a better mod is the "map ecu 2" system or "miller maf " conversions . but they cost about $500-700 etc plus tunning time etc . maybe for that money you could pick up a M30B35 3.5L engine and ecu and just drop that in. that will give a decent kick or power and torque for your money. also remember these m30 engines love a good std tune , new plugs , tappets set correctly , good dizzy and rotor . hot cams can make a defference but the head has to come off and i think 3.5L conversion is better money spent. if you can get yourself a earlier M30b35 from a 1983-1986 535i 635csi 735i etc they have better power due to higher compression pistons than the later engines used in the e34 and e32 models. thats my 2cents worth anyway Edited January 21, 2011 by Brent HARTGE535i
kiwi6539 3 Report post Posted January 21, 2011 Hey all Thanks again for the info. Will get in for a decent tune and look at replacing the dizzy if worn. Any recomendations on where to buy the dizzy etc from and do i have to get orignal part or is there a better after market one around?. Are headers worth looking at or removing cat converter? Thinking about using it on track days so look at what improvements i can make? Also is anyone running 16 225/55/16 looking for a decent set of feet? And theres not much around in that size? Cheers

Cheers headers will help , but they cost $600-1000 .open up the exhaust system should be ok . take the cat out if it even has one?? i think any dizzy will do but maybe only bosch is availible 225/55-16" is std e39 size so you should be able to find some . if you want to do track days , get your self some cheap used semi slicks and spare alloys . 225/50-16 will be ok . and maybe swap your main wheels for 17" 235/45 also look at a diff ratio change for better get up and go.
