tire 10 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 I have a 260 here out of an E28 (I think). 260-01302-91. It has a lot of oil inside the bell housing and I want to fix the leak as I have just had the clutch plate resurfaced due to oil contamination. 1. Is there anywhere other than the input shaft seal that can leak oil into the bellhousing? 2. Is replacing the input shaft seal a DIY job for someone with no specialist tools? Thanks, Max. e30ftw 410 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 Rear main seal (crank seal) and sump gasket can leak engine oil into the bellhousing.
Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 As above Max, 99% sure that's from the engine side, not the box.
tire 10 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 Ok I would still like to replace the input shaft seal just in case, so if anyone has any info on the above I'd love to hear it. Ashkan?
tire 10 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 Update, this may be of interest to someone. I got Ernst at Bavarian Motors to replace the input shaft seal, the o-ring in the round thing in the bell housing, the selector seal, the output seal (so that's every seal) and the nylon selector bush for a cost of $300 including parts. *Glenn* 854 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 Ernst is a great guy... he used to work with me many years ago. Very, very good with BMW manual gearboxes
