btccm3 1 Report post Posted January 26, 2011 so i got home from work the other nite and was idling while winding up the windows and suddenley the radiator split down the side on the plastic. so i was wondering what caused the spike in pressure? faulty thermostat maybe.... Hopefully its just old plastic...make sure the radiator is up to it,the m30 prollly requires more cooling than the M50???? really?because the s50 b30 one i have is much bigger. and the s50 produces much more power and im assuming that means more heat as a result thus the bigger core size. head gasket hmm didnt think of that ill have to make sure i check the water for traces of oil once its in. It was super easy who would have known it would fit so well. so as it turns out the factory radiator in a 36 m3 sedan is almost identical to the 88 530 one it went stright in but is prob 20 cm lower along the bottom. i gave my 530 system and the s50 radiator a good flush seems to be all good now i think it was just old plastic prob solved. btccm3 1 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 yeah iv been watching it pretty closely i did change the thermostat just to be sure and i removed the water pump and gave that a good clean too i redid the seal and the workings seem all good nothing was broken just a bit rusty but you get that with such a high k engine.
