Mass Air Flow Meter - working at 100% ?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, Have been told that while a scan will tell you the MAF is working, it will not tell you if it is working 100% of what it is supposed to be doing, or perhaps if it is working only at 10%. Is this right? If so, how does one tell how well the MAF is doing it's job? I asked my informant how, and his reply was "Compare it to a new one."

Thanks very much.

That is correct...however there are some guidlines depending on engine capacity

Idle range 12-18 Kg of air

Full WO throttle under load 450-600 Kg

Thank you, Glenn. Specifically, for my car - E36 323i M52B25 mfd 01-1996 - would that tighten the boundaries you have given?

10-15 idle and a minimum of 500 at WO throttle under load

There is no real way of guaging in between, you could compare new & used on a dyno if it was done the same day under exactly the same condition. For road use it's probably not that critical

Glenn, is that figure KG of air per minute or hour or what?

Just interested.
