few issues on e30 316i

Recommended Posts

bought an e30 316i not too long ago...

things of my concern at the moment are

1. knocking sound maybe in rear left?? not sure and vibration increases as the speed goes up.

also clunking sound when cornering... sounds like 2 way diff on my old silvia.....

2. speedo not working at all

3. fuel mileage either on min or max i.e. foot on = max, off the accelerator = min

any comments on where to start looking?? i'm majorly concerned about #1 cause it feels like car is about to break down when driving on motorway lol

Check the driveshaft first, get under the car and make sure the centre hanger bearing is intact, and the rubber guibo on the back of the gearbox is good. You'll need to remove the heat shield over the exhaust to get at the hanger bearing, it's in the middle of the driveshaft.

Speedo could be disconnected at the diff, it has a plug on the back of the diff.

Could be the rear shock mounts, they are a common wear item on e30. Replace with e46 mounts or e30 convertible
