possibly getting a 525i

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

am looking at doing a straight swap with some guys 525i. Im swapping e30 manual coupe for his 89 m20 525i with leather seats. What are things i should look for when taking it for a test drive? i have heard its good to check water level and oil level take it for a trash then re check it and see if it has raised of dropped etc. Any other recommendations would be awesome

Cheers

Mitch

I suggest you get a professional pre purchase inspection by a dealer or BMW specialist

Errr, the water and oil level is going to change after taking it for a hoon, as alot of the oil is still in the head and draining down, and the coolant has expanded with heat.

Get someone else to look at it.

there is so much info on the web re e34s it would take forever to regurgitate.Alloy heads and iron blocks will eventually blow the headgasket, control arm bushes are marginal, tourings double sunroofs are troublesome, solid solid cars though lots of grip, nice to drive and nice handling for a big car if they have good sway bars, platic in the cooling systems will eventyually crap out ,i think the M20 suffers from the water pump impellor failure??
