sam726 29 Report post Posted May 15, 2011 Hi guys, I have been thinking about importing some hid blue/white look bulbs. They have a colour temperature of 8500k so give off a white / blue tinted light. I had these in my car ages ago but cant find them on the market anymore and all the other 'blue look' bulbs ive bought are just yellow crap. Below are some pictures of when they were in my chaser. Please guys let me know a couple things; is there a market? at what price? and also whether a 7500k white temperature would be better on the market, basically 8500k but without the blue tint. If i was to bring these in they would probably be selling at around $30, what do you guys think? Honest opinions please. Thanks

Yankus 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 NZTA rules state headlights must be predominantly white. I believe the lights in the above pictures are not legal in NZ due to them being mostly purple. http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/virm-in-...ghting-v4a2.pdf Link to VIRM regarding headlights. Reason for Rejection Performance 15. When switched on, a headlamp emits a light that is: a )not substantially white or amber, or b ) different in colour or intensity from the other lamp in a pair, or c ) not steady, or d )not bright enough to illuminate the road ahead, eg due to modification, deterioration or an incorrect light source, or e ) too bright, eg due to the fitment of an HID conversion kit (Note 8) or other incorrect light source. also +1 to above. Higher temp = different color = less actual light Those 8500k ones and above put out less actual light than standard ish bulbs. I think you'll find the above reasons are why they are no longer on the market. M2C
Apex 693 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) My opinion is that an old POS looks like an old POS regardless of what colour its illegal lights are. Fail. Just my opinion. Secondly, and what I have observed from running early in the morning, is that these aftermarket casino lights don’t seem to work very well, I am either blinded by them of or they don’t put out bugger all light at all, on top of this I would say a good 50% of the rice has at least one bulb out. Biggest wank light failure I have seen was a Red Honda Civic driving in the dark the other morning with only two strips of RED LED attached to the front bumper, if you could call it a bumper, it was more a fibreglass boat hull. Yankus 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 Apex I think he wanted actual opinions not a /rant about ricers. Bad day is it? I think a "you shouldn't do that to a BMW because it will look like a bowl of stir-fry" may have been a little better eh?

bimmer boy 21 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) I think 7500k would be more appealing in the market and be less likely to get flack from the 5-0. Although the bluer light cast does give the car a bit more of a modern look. Ideally with cars the idea for headlights is to mimic day light for the best visibility, daylight brightness is around 5000k - 6500k. So I don't think using 7500k you wouldn't drastically loose night time visibility or anything. Just to to put a disclaimer on the goods when you sell to people to let them know that they are not 100% legal in all applications. Even though generally speaking HID lights are illegal in cars but a lot of cars like my own can take HID bulbs etc and are perfectly legal. So I don't think everyone should jump down his throat. There getting to be so much negativity around here these days. If you don't have anything constructive to say, chances are no one cares what you think. Good luck with the lights mate!
