deeveus 81 Report post Posted May 25, 2011 Who's the resident expert on these? I'm away hunting on Stewart Island next week, looking for something to take with me. I've been looking at THESE What's the standard? Do I have to spend this much? Would prefer the same kind of thing would prefer a colour screen but just don't prefer the prices! Can I download a topo map on my iPhone4 and will this work down there even though I don't have cellphone coverage? Cheers.

huff3r 347 Report post Posted May 25, 2011 +1 on Garmin. I have a Garmin phone and its pretty awesome (has built in GPS for driving and walking, complete with spoken street names and all the extras). Also, Garmin is certainly the standard in Aviation.
Apex 693 Report post Posted May 25, 2011 From my recent research into personal GPS units it does look like Garman is the way to go, they have been in the business longer than the alternative’s.. they do have a silly massive range though so make sure you have a good look at the brochure. I am looking for a tracking device for running, they cater for this also, its all bloody expensive though!
