Manual transmission repair

Hey guys,

Has anybody been through the process of having their trans rebuilt?

I have some pretty annoying issues with 3rd to 2nd transfer in my transmission as well as an oil leak, and wondering if anybody can recommend a good shop to do transmission repairs and if you have any ballpark idea of what cost I should be looking at, that'd be great.

I wanted to rebuilt cause the amount of labour involved in swapping a box & the cost of the box itself is quite high, and knowing my luck after a month the box will stuff up. It's a manual coversion car.

Alright, so I've found by checking the number printed on the box that the person who converted this car to manual decided to use a Getrag 225. I won't be rebuilding this and I'm either going to be an idiot and spend $3800 on a brand new unused Getrag 250, or buy a ZF 320Z box. I just need to know if there will be any other parts needed to get this box to fit, or if it should just bolt straight up?

you will need a matching driveshaft and maybe mount etc

what is that gearbox from a e30 m20 ???

dont know that number. where did you get that number from.

what abou the diff ratio you have???

how many rpm at 100kmh in 5th is it doing .

just buy a good used getrag 220

from a 316i 318ti 318is 318i 320i 323i 325i

or zf from a 328i or m3.

The number printed on the transmission in my car is: 220.0.0225.94 which searches tell me Getrag 225

Theres one on trademe at the moment which has the number 220.0.0225.97 which is a Getrag 250.

If I buy the 250, what other parts would I need for it to fit?

And does anybody have a 225?

if its a getrag from a e36 or e46 318i 316i 320i 323i 325i 318ti 318is it will work fine .

they all are the same , just bmw keep changing part numbers etc

So, I now have a Getrag 250 gearbox. A brand new Luk flywheel. A brand new Sachs Clutch Kit. A brand new clutch slave. And I've also had to order a new starter motor, a selector rod and a shifter arm.

I've got all of these except the shifter arm

Part number is 25 11 1 221 541 and found in 320i 325i (M50) & 320i (M52) 323i (M52)

I have one from 2.8L and it's not the right size so must be from one of the above.

Does anybody have one lying round?
